China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited (CASIC) is a key state-owned enterprise directly administered by the Central Government. It serves as the backbone of China's aerospace industry and the main force in the development of national defense weapons and equipment.
CASIC traces its origins to the Fifth Research Institute of the Ministry of National Defense, founded in October 1956. It subsequently evolved through China's aerospace and machinery industry organizations before becoming formally established as China Aerospace Machinery and Electronics Group Corporation in July 1999.
In July 2001, it was renamed China Aerospace Science and Industry Group Corporation. Following corporate restructuring in November 2017, it was formally renamed China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited.
